About This Show

Hit It! is a new blockbuster musical sensation that has critics and audience members jumping, clapping, banging and cheering. After standing ovations at The Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, Bay Area theatre patrons can see Jared “Choclatt” Crawford in this new, expanded musical, featuring 4 new songs, a steel subway, special effects, new dancers, and a new book at the John and Jean Knox Performing Arts Center in Richmond/San Pablo, on the campus of Contra Costa College.

Award winning Broadway veterans Jared Choclatt “Bring In da Noise/Bring In da Funk” and Clay David are collaborating and co-directing this smash success and guarantee that this show will be “the ride of a lifetime!” The new musical centers on J.R., a boy from Harlem who dreams of being a famous musician like Chic Webb, Buddy Rich, Max Roach, and Tito Puente. He entertains and works on his craft at the 42nd Street subway station banging his buckets on the platform for money, hoping to one day be discovered. Grandma, who is solely raising him, is overly protective and does not share or comprehend J.R.’s journey. Hurt and angry, J.R. storms out of the apartment with his drumsticks and his buckets. J.R. has lessons to learn and is guided by a motley crew, Henry Madison, an elderly, homeless guitar player and DJ, a comic transient percussionist. He begins his magical subway ride with a New York Transit Authority conductor narrating time travel in the subway station. Henry, J.R. and D.J. embark on the ride of a lifetime, zooming across time. Subway doors open, and our travelers find themselves in the time and place of all of his musical heroes and J.R. magically personifies musical percussive icons.
