Halo-Halo II, a queer pinay revue, is back by popular demand, presented by the Bindlestiff Studio. It is the celebration and reclamation of Pilipino culture through music, word and movement; an insertion to the annals of our history that documents our existence. Based upon the variety programs of the Philippines, this program shows the complexity of identity through the artists’ individual pieces: some humorous and light, others stinging with heartbreak. Halo-halo, or “mix-mix” is a Pilipino dessert comprised of sweet beans, coconut, jackfruit, dried rice, sweet yam, shaved ice, milk and ice cream; a seemingly random hodge-podge of ingredients thrown together to make a concoction representative of the hybridity that is Pilipino culture. The label Queer Pinay also falls within that hybrid spectrum.
Performers include: Maiana Minahal, Lolan Sevilla, Christine Balance, Geene Gonzalez, Frances Sedayao, Tina Bartolome, Cynthia “Uni” Blancaflor, Morningstar Vancil, Nedjula Baguio and more!
