Scooper, a thrice-weekly psychiatric patient, meets Deirdre, a woman with a five-vists-a-week habit, in the waiting room of their shared psychiatrist. When the good doctor goes on vacation, they turn to each other and begin an affair that gives new dimension to the phrase “crazy love” with both ending up in the hospital. Ultimately, the accident-prone lovers, along with Scooper’s ailing mother, who waves a plastic statue of St. Jude around in an attempt to heal herself, realize that their wounds are far deeper than what hospital bandages can cover.
