About the Show
LA’s own Lula Washington Dance Theatre, known for its inspiring and thought-provoking repertoire, celebrates their 45th anniversary with two North American premieres at The Ford. The Master Plan, choreographed by Washington, is a tribute to the late saxophonist Pharoah Sanders, with live musical accompaniment guided by Marcus L. Miller,(musical artist and drummer, LWDT Music Director) and special guests including Dwight Trible. This dance wants viewers to see the power of dance and music as a connection to a higher consciousness that promotes peace, love, respect and happiness. Tamica Washington-Miller’s And We Can Fly is inspired by the African American folk tale “The People Could Fly.” It acknowledges and explores African American spirituality, the Ring Shout, and other African American healing technologies that have been forgotten, with original music composed by Marcus L. Miller.
This will be a soul-stirring performance with classic American works including Donald McKayle’s Son
