Just in time for the presidential elections, the hilariously insightful Harry Shearer takes on American voter apathy with his new comedy Twilight’s Last Gleaming. Set in a not-too-distant future of low voter turnout and targeted political advertising, this is the tale of the last voter in America who is personally bombarded by politicians of every stripe.
Also on the bill is Atwater: Fixin’ To Die, Robert Myer’s acclaimed portrait of the “dirty tricks” political strategists and self-styled master of negative campaigning. Richard Masur directs Gregory Itzin as Lee Atwater, the most audacious of the architects of George Bush’s 1988 presidential campaign, probably best remembered for turning black convict Willie Horton into a national symbol of the fear of crime.
