Seven Keys To Baldpate

About the Show

A writer acting on a bet holes himself away in Baldpate Inn, a long train ride away from New York. His task is to write a complete novel in 24 hours. Baldpate would seem an ideal location to work: it’s isolated and shut down for the winter, so Magee the writer would be free from distractions. Settled into the place with the aid of a caretaker and his wife, Magee is ready to go to work when it becomes plain that this inn which supposedly has only one key actually has seven, and intruders will make it an uneasy night for Magee. Interlopers involved in a scheme that involves political scandal, bribery, theft, double-crossing and murder will plunge Magee headlong into a mystery that he never expected. Nobody is who they seem. Oh, yes. Magee falls suddenly and deeply in love with an attractive reporter on the trail of a scoop. Can Magee bring the wrongdoers to justice? Will he win the heart of the lovely Mary? Will he win his $5,000 bet?

Seven Keys To Baldpate, the classic mystery/comedy, is written by George M. Cohan, based on the novel by Earl Derr Biggers. Directed by John Lewis Lozes, the show is produced for the Sierra Madre Playhouse by Ward Calaway.

Additional Thursday performance on February 17 at 8p.m.
