About the Show

Based on the true story of Leo Frank, wrongly convicted of the murder of thirteen year old Mary Phagan in Atlanta, Georgia in 1913, Parade recounts the press frenzy and public hatred surrounding the trial, and his wife’s crusade for justice. In a time of religious intolerance, political injustice and racial tension, this stirring musical explores the endurance of love and hope against all the odds.

Parade received its world première at the Lincoln Center in 1998 under the directorship of Harold Prince. It received 9 Tony Award nominations, and won the Awards for both Book and Score, as well as the Drama Desk and New York Critics’ Circle Awards for Best New Musical.

A sweeping portrait in the spirit of such American classics as The Crucible and To Kill A Mockingbird, The Neighborhood Playhouse is honored to present the first fully staged, professional production of this important work in Los Angeles.
