Off Book

An hour before the opening of a new show, the actor playing the romantic lead calls to say he won’t be there. Only three people know his lines: the stage manager terrified of public speaking, the playwright (a woman), and the director…whose sister is the other romantic lead. During intermission, the audience votes which one will take the role and in the second act of this “choose-your-own adventure” play, the show is performed with the winner as understudy.
