Joanna’s Husband, David’s Wife

About the Show

Joanna’s Husband, David’s Wife tells the story of a 25-year marriage, set from the 60s through the 80s, a turbulent period during which gender roles (including those within a marriage) were tossed about and redefined.
Elizabeth Forsythe Hailey based this play upon her best-selling novel. Norman Cohen directs.

Joanna meets David when she’s hired onto a newspaper. They marry, and she’s a housewife, while he struggles as a playwright and then starts to write for television. He brings her aboard while working on a soap opera and she goes on to become a successful novelist. She is no longer just David’s Wife. As her professional recognition surpasses his, he finds himself becoming Joanna’s Husband. But Joanna’s own fame isn’t enough for her. She has other yearnings. Will this marriage last?
