New York City
Classical Theatre Lab and the City of West Hollywood present the West Coast premiere of Neil Armfield’s and Geoffrey Rush’s translation of Exit the King, the tragicomedy written by Eugene Ionesco.
Exit the King tells the story of King Berenger the First, who was rumored to be more than 400 years old and at one time was able to command nature and force others to obey his will. He has just been told that he is dying and his kingdom is crumbling around him. In deep denial, he refuses to relinquish the throne. That we are all mortal, regardless of how much we deny it, is the foundation for this Ionesco classic.
This translation was written and taken to Broadway by Armfield and Rush for a revival production in 2009 starring Rush and Susan Sarandon.
