Courasche

This is the American premiere of Courasche, created and performed by German actress Jutta Seifert. Seifert, who has performed this one-woman show throughout Europe, adapted her play from Johann von Grimmelshausen’s 17th-century picaresque tale of “arch deceitress” Mutter Courasche (Mother Courage). In just over an hour, Seifert takes the audience along on Courasche’s journey through the Thirty Years’ War. The colorful antiheroine transforms from boyish chamber servant to fiery concubine to successful merchant to impoverished vagabond, going through a series of husbands along the way.
