Seven Steps Around The Fire

SETU’s upcoming production Seven Steps Around the Fire, a play written by Mahesh Dattani, directed by Subrata Das, brings up important social issue of social exclusion and identity crisis of hijra (Indian transgender) community via murder mystery, thriller. 

Hijra is one of the oldest LGBTQ+ community in South Asia, that is still struggling for social acceptance and basic human rights. There are many movies, books and plays written to bring justice to this community. Seven Steps Around the Fire by Mahesh Dattani discusses social issues and oppression faced by this community. SETU, a non-profit theater group in Boston is bringing this play to stage in November to bring awareness about this social issue.

SETU is a 501(c)(3) non-profit theater group in the Boston area. SETU means “bridge” in several Indian languages and our mission is to build bridges between Indian and Western cultures through the medium of theater.
