Cast and creative team information has been announced for Taproot Theatre’s production of Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming, written by Connie Ray and conceived by Alan Bailey, with musical arrangements by Mike Craver. Scott Nolte will direct the production, which runs July 8-August 8, with an opening on July 10.
The third and final installment of this bluegrass gospel musical series, the show takes place on an October evening in 1945, after World War Two. The Sanders family gather to sing together for what might be the last time, as they’re sending Pastor Oglethorpe and his wife, June, on a new journey and singing Dennis Sanders in as the new pastor.
The production features several cast members from Taproot’s 2006 production of Smoke on the Mountain, including Edd Key and Theresa Holmes as Burl and Vera Sanders, Kevin Brady as Pastor Oglethorpe, and David Anthony Lewis as Stanley. The cast will also include Candace Vance as Denise, Brent Ashton as Dennis, and Jenny Cross as June.
The creative team will include scenic designer Rick Lorig, sound designer Mark Lund, costume designer Sarah Burch Gordon, lighting designer Richard Schaefer, and Edd Key as musical director.
