La Jolla Playhouse Announces Casting for American Night: The Ballad of Juan José logo
La Jolla Playhouse has announced casting for Richard Montoya's American Night: The Ballad of Juan José, to run January 27 - February 26 in the company's Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre. Jo Bonney, who has developed the work with the group Culture Clash, will direct the piece, which will have choreography by Ken Roht.

The show centers on a man who, while feverishly studying for his U.S. citizenship exam, finds himself swept up into a whirlwind journey through pivotal moments in American history.

The company will feature playwright Montoya as Juan the First and in Ensemble roles and René Millán in the title role, along with Stephanie Beatriz (Lydia/Ensemble), Rodney Gardiner (Ben Pettus/Ensemble), David Kelly (Harry Bridges/Ensemble), Terri McMahon (Mrs. Finney/Ensemble), Kimberly Scott (Viola Pettus/Ensemble), Herbert Siguenza (Neil Diamante/Ensemble), and Daisuke Tsuji (Johnny/Ensemble).

The creative team will include Neil Patel (scenic design), ESosa (costume design), David Weiner (lighting design), Darron L. West (sound design), and Shawn Sagady (projection design).
