Transport Group's cast of the new musical Renascence met the press on September 12.
Renascence has music by Carmel Dean, book by Dick Scanlan, and lyrics from the poems of Edna St. Vincent Millay. Directed by artistic director Jack Cummings III and Dick Scanlan, the show is set to begin previews October 5 at Abrons Arts Center, with opening night set for October 25. Scott Rink is the choreographer.
The cast of Renascence includes Mikaela Bennett, Hannah Corneau, Jason Gotay, Danny Harris Kornfeld, Katie Thompson, and Donald Webber Jr..
Renascence is described as "the story of the radical, reckless, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Edna St. Vincent Millay, who lived one hundred years ago, a hundred years ahead of her time. At 18 she writes a staggeringly profound poem that rocks the literary world and transforms her from rural Mainer into a virtual cause célèbre. Vincent captivates everyone in her orbit — male and female — and is hero-worshipped for her unabashed intellect and frank sensuality. She works her newfound fame, leaving in her wake broken relationships with those who believed in her before anyone else."
The creative team for Renascence includes Brett J. Banakis (scenic design), Ásta Bennie Hostetter (costume design), Jen Schreiver (lighting design), and Kai Harada (sound design). Musical direction is by Geraldine Anello, and orchestrations are by Michael Starobin.
