Because I Could Not Stop Celebrates Opening Night
Angelica Page stars as Emily Dickinson in this work from the Ensemble for the Romantic Century.
Ensemble for the Romantic Century celebrated opening night of their production of Because I Could Not Stop: An Encounter With Emily Dickinson on Thursday, September 27, at Pershing Square Signature Center.
James Melo's play is described as follows: "Emily Dickinson produced some of the most haunting and mysterious works of the 19th Century but she was one of the most elusive artistic personalities. In Dickinson's self-imposed solitude, she constructs a world of images, sensations, and emotions ruled by the breadth of her imagination. Through a pairing of her words with the music of renowned composer Amy Beach, audiences embark on a journey through Dickinson's soul and inner world."
Directed by Donald T. Sanders, Because I Could Not Stop features Angelica Page and Kristina Bachrach. Musicians featured are Victoria Lewis (violin), Mélanie Clapiès (violin), Chieh-Fan Yiu (violin), Ari Evan (cello), and Max Barros (piano).
The creative team includes Vanessa James (scenic and costume design), Beverly Emmons (lighting design), and David Bengali (projection design).
