The Public Theater has extended the National Asian American Theatre Company's acclaimed production of Clifford Odets' Awake and Sing!, now running through August 8 in the Shiva Theater. The final performance was originally scheduled for August 1.

Stephen Brown-Fried directs the production's all Asian-American cast, featuring Mia Katigbak in her OBIE Award-winning role as the matriarch Bessie, along with Sanjit De Silva, Mel Duane Gionson, Teresa Avia Lim, James Saito, Jon Norman Schneider, David Shih, Alok Tewari, and Henry Yuk.

Considered Odets' finest play, Awake and Sing! tells the story of the Bergers, a lower middle class, three-generation Jewish family living in a Bronx apartment during the Depression. The play premiered on Broadway in 1935. The NAATCO production opens the company's 25th season in residency at the Public.
