The York Theatre Company, in association with Arnold Mittelman and The National Jewish Theater Foundation, has announced plans to present the world premiere of Rothschild & Sons, October 6-November 1. The new musical features music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Sherman Yellen. Jeffrey B. Moss is set to direct.

Rothschild & Sons is based on the creators' original The Rothschilds, inspired by the novel of the same name by Frederic Morton. This one-act, intimate reimagining of the musical focuses on the relationships between the patriarch of the family, Mayer Rothschild, his wife Gutele, and their five sons. The work also features several songs not included in the original, with new lyrics by Harnick.

Broadway veteran Robert Cuccioli (Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark) will star as Mayer Rothschild, with additional casting for the 11-member company to be announced shortly.

The original Broadway production of The Rothschilds, which played for over 500 performances in 1970, was the last collaboration between Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick.
