Vivienne Benesch, Renée Fleming, Pam MacKinnon, et al. Set for Julliard’s 2009-2010 Season

The Julliard School has announced its 2009-2010 performance season, which will feature nearly 700 dance, drama, and music events.

Juilliard’s Drama Division will present George Bernard Shaw’s Arms and the Man, directed by Vivienne Benesch (October 21-25); John Patrick Stanley’s Savage in Limbo, directed by Pam MacKinnon (November 12-16); Bertolt Brecht’s The Threepenny Opera, directed by Sam Gold (December 10-14); and The Americans, Part I, The Lay of the Land, directed by Brian Mertes, featuring the works of Sam Shepard (February 11-15).

Additional highlights will include a master class with soprano Renée Fleming; Ancient Paths, Modern Voices celebrating Chinese culture; an evening with Branford Marsalis; the world premiere of Dmitri Yanov-Yanovsky’s Paths of Parables II: Woody Allen’s Hasidic Tales with a Guide to Their Interpretation by the Noted Scholar with texts by Woody Allen; the New York Festival of Song featuring works by Samuel Barber, Amy Beach, the Beach Boys, Irving Berlin, Leonard Bernstein, Eubie Blake, William Bolcom, and Paul Bowles; works by acclaimed choreographers Merce Cunningham, Paul Taylor, and Jerome Robbins; and world premieres of works by Shih Hui Chen, Tan Dun, Shafer Mahoney, Chen Qigang, Augusta Read Thomas, Joan Tower, Ye Xiaogang, and Dmitri Yanov-Yanovsky.
