In which we celebrate the many faces of Eric Anderson and kick ourselves for forgetting him in our facial-hair roundup.
As 2014 draws to a close, TheaterMania looks back on some of the most jaw-dropping stories of the year with the 2014 WTFs.
TheaterMania has a soft spot for guys with fancy facial hair, which is why we ranked the bold beards of Broadway in a roundup earlier this year. Even though we're glad Chris O'Dowd and Steven Pasquale made the list, we regret overlooking the ever-changing look of Broadway regular Eric Anderson (The Last Ship). The Soul Doctor himself went on from the long curls of that show to a Clark Gable-style 'stache as the announcer in Rocky earlier this year.
After the Rocky run ended, Anderson probably thought his face would get a welcome break. But not so. The actor was immediately cast in Sting's The Last Ship as Freddy Newlands — a role that requires an upper lip so well-endowed it would make even the swarthiest seaman jealous.
We're sorry we overlooked you the first time, Eric Anderson. Your facial-hair commitment is unparalleled.
