Brooke Shields and more came out to celebrate the openings of two new shows.
At a joint event on May 21, The Public Theater celebrated the openings of The Mobile Shakespeare Unit’s Macbeth (which officially opened May 20) and Elevator Repair Service’s The Sound and the Fury. The party's attendees included Brooke Shields, Yael Stone, Michael Kelly, Josh Hamilton, Cherry Jones, Jessica Hecht, Mike Daisey, Emily Bergl, and many more.
The Sound and the Fury is a staging of the first section of William Faulkner's famous novel of the same name. As with the 2012 production of Gatz, Elevator Repair Service has remained faithful to its source material, using Faulkner's own language rather than adapting it. With the help of split-screen staging, video-projected text, and a lush sound score, Elevator Repair Service pulls Faulkner's story off the page.
The Mobile Shakespeare Unit, which is currently presenting Macbeth, brings free Shakespeare to audiences with limited or no access to the arts, including prisons, homeless shelters, and the Public Works community partners.
