Tiler Peck, Boyd Gaines, and more take in their show’s artistic inspiration.
The company of The Kennedy Center's Little Dancer visited the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., on October 21 to visit Degas sculpture Little Dancer Aged Fourteen. The new musical is inspired by the young ballerina who posed for Edgar Degas and went on to become the most famous dancer in the world.
Little Dancer features music, book, and lyrics by the Tony Award-winning songwriting team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime). It is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Susan Stroman (Bullets Over Broadway). Performances will begin October 25, in advance of a November 20 opening, and will run through November 30.
The cast features four-time Tony Award winner Boyd Gaines as Edgar Degas, three-time Tony Award nominee Rebecca Luker as Adult Marie van Goethem, and New York City Ballet principal dancer Tiler Peck as Young Marie van Goethem.
