Cameron Pow returns to The Lion King on Broadway in the role of Zazu beginning tonight, March 24. Pow previously played the role on Broadway intermittently from 2009-2013 before taking over the role full-time from 2016-2025.

Prior to Broadway, Pow also performed in the West End and North American touring companies. Blakely Slaybaugh played his final performance as Zazu on Sunday, March 22.

The Lion King opened on Broadway on November 13, 1997, and won six 1998 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Julie Taymor, who conceived and directed the production and is its costume designer and mask co-designer, was the first woman to win a Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical.

The Broadway score features Elton John and Tim Rice’s songs from the Lion King animated film, new songs by John and Rice, additional musical material by South African Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor, and Hans Zimmer, and music from “Rhythm of the Pride Lands,” an album inspired by the original music in the film, written by Lebo M, Mark Mancina, and Hans Zimmer. The book was adapted by Roger Allers, who co-directed the animated The Lion King feature film, and Irene Mecchi, who co-wrote the film’s screenplay.
