New York City
The musical will play Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre.
Broadway and West End vet Tam Mutu (Doctor Zhivago) will join Tony winner Daisy Eagan in the 5th Avenue Theatre's upcoming production of Lucy Simon and Marcia Norman's acclaimed musical The Secret Garden. David Armstrong directs.
The cast of the Seattle run will be headed by the original 1991 Broadway production's Tony-winning star Eagan, who, at 11 years old, became the youngest actress to earn a Tony Award for her performance as Mary Lennox. She now takes on the role of Martha, originated by Tony nominee Alison Fraser.
Mutu will play Archibald Craven, alongside Broadway veteran Lizzie Klemperer (Bright Star) as Lily, Tony nominee Josh Young (Amazing Grace) as Dr. Neville Craven, and Charlie Franklin and Seán G. Griffin as Dickon and Ben Weatherstaff. Pacific Northwest native Bea Corley will take on the role of Mary Lennox, with Guthrie Greenwood Bettinger and Coleman Hunter alternating the role of Colin, and Marianne Owen as Mrs. Medlock. Brittany Baratz, Jason Forbach, and Maya Mainar play Rose, Albert Lennox, and Ayah, with Erik Ankrim, Jared Michael Brown, Megan Chenovick, Rachel DeShon, Candice Donehoo, Mary Jo DuGaw, Nina Makino, Matthew Posner, and Greg Stone round out the company.
Based on the children’s novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden tells the story of 10-year-old Mary Lennox, who is orphaned in the British Raj of India and sent to England to live with her reclusive uncle, Archibald Craven. The original Broadway production earned seven Tony nominations including Best Musical and Best Original Score, and won awards for Best Book of a Musical (Norman), Best Scenic Design (Heidi Landesman), and Best Featured Actress (Eagan).
