Spirited Away World Tour Will Stop at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles

A world tour of the stage adaptation of Spirited Away, based on the Studio Ghibli Oscar-winning animated film by animator and director Hayao Miyazaki, will stop in Los Angeles at Center Theatre Group’s Ahmanson Theatre in September 2027.

The tour will open at the National Theater, Taipei (December 16-January 31, 2027) before continuing on a Japan national tour (March–August 2027), beginning in Tokyo.

Stops are also planned for the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto (May-August 2027) and the London Coliseum (March-July 2028), where the show had its European premiere.

Following a tour of Japan in 2022, the original Japanese cast performed the show at the London Coliseum in 2024, where it won Best New Play at the 2025 WhatsOnStage Awards and was nominated for four Olivier Awards including Best Set Design, Best Costume Design, Best Sound Design, and Best New Entertainment or Comedy Play.

Spirited Away is presented in the original Japanese, with English captions. Casting for the world tour will be announced at a later date.

The film was re-imagined for the stage by Toho Theatrical Department and Olivier and Tony Award-winning director John Caird, co-adapted by Maoko Imai. The production includes a live orchestra playing the film score by Joe Hisaishi, arranged by Brad Haak, set design by Jon Bausor, puppet design by Toby Olié, choreography by Shigehiro Ide, and costume design by Sachiko Nakahara.

In Spirited Away, Chihiro, while traveling to a new home with her family, stumbles into a world of fantastic spirits ruled over by the sorceress Yubaba. When her parents are turned into pigs and she is put to work in a magical bathhouse, Chihiro must use her wits to survive in this strange new place.
