San Francisco will be the first West Coast stop of Bess Wohl’s acclaimed play.
San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theater will continue its 2017-18 season with Bess Wohl’s Small Mouth Sounds, running from October 11-December 10. The production is the first West Coast stop of the play’s seven-month national tour.
Small Mouth Sounds is described as follows: “Under the eye of an unseen guru, six wildly disparate urbanites looking for life balance gather for a week-long silent retreat in the woods. As they listen to their leader’s ruminations (and struggle to meditate while clumsily fighting their most primal of urges), they learn that silence can indeed be golden. It can also be funny, frustrating, erotic, comforting, and profoundly passive-aggressive.”
Under the direction of Tony nominee Rachel Chavkin (The Great Comet), the cast of Small Mouth Sounds features Connor Barrett (Jan), Ben Beckley (Ned), Edward Chin-Lyn (Rodney), Orville Mendoza (Teacher), Brenna Palughi (Alicia), Socorro Santiago (Joan), and Cherene Snow (Judy).
The A.C.T. production features the original design team from the off-Broadway production, including Laura Jellinek (scenic designer), Tilly Grimes (costume designer), Mike Inwood (lighting designer), Stowe Nelson (sound designer), Andrew Schneider (projection designer), and Noah Mease (prop designer).
Small Mouth Sounds had its world premiere at Ars Nova in 2015, followed by a second off-Broadway run at the Pershing Square Signature Center.
