Sir John Tavener and Teller Join Design Team for Geffen Playhouse’s The Exorcist

Internationally acclaimed spiritual composer Sir John Tavener and world-renowned creative consultant Teller — best known as half of the magic and illusionist duo Penn & Teller — are part of the design team for the Geffen Playhouse’s world premiere of John Pielmeier’sThe Exorcist, the stage adaptation of William Peter Blatty’s famous 1971 novel, which will run July 3-August 12. Tony Award winner John Doyle will direct the production.


The show focuses on a young girl who is possessed by a supernatural spirit, much to the horror of her family and the local clergy.


As previously reported, the cast will star Richard Chamberlain (Father Merrin), Brooke Shields (Chris MacNeil), along with David Wilson Barnes (Father Damien Karras), Harry Groener (Burke Dennings), Emily Yetter (Regan MacNeil), Stephen Bogardus (Dr. Strong), Manoel Felciano (Father Joe), Tom Nelis (Dr. Klein), and Roslyn Ruff (Carla).


The design team also includes Tony Award winning scenic/costume designer Scott Pask, lighting designer Jane Cox and sound designer Dan Moses Schreier.

Pielemeier is best known for his play, Agnes of God. Doyle’s many directorial credits include Company, Sweeney Todd, A Catered Affair, Road Show, and Merrily We Roll Along.
