Casting has been announced for the Berkeley-based Shotgun Players’ production of The Road to Hades in John Hinkel Park, July 30-September 11. Sabrina Klein will direct.
Written by playwright, circus performer, and founder of the Clown Conservatory in San Francisco Jeff Raz, The Road to Hades is a tale in which the playwright Aristophanes enters a contest to be named Peacemaker of the Millennium. His competition includes the recently demoted goddess Aphrodite, who has more than one trick up her seductive sleeve and the God of War, who fears he may lose his job. The production will feature live, original music by Johannes Mager, circus acts, and plenty of audience participation.
Raz will star in the lead role as Ari and composer Mager will perform as Apollo. The cast will also include John Mercer as Ares, Ryan O’Donnell as Hermes, Velina Brown as Aphrodite, as well as Perry Aliado, Tristan Cunningham, Julie Douglas, Ben Euphrat, Larissa Farias, Michael Kelly, Corinne Robkin, and Brian Trybom.
Set design will be by Martin Flynn, costume design by Maggie Whitaker, and properties design by Chelsea Pegram.
