Casting has been announced for the previously reported North American tour of Green Day’s American Idiot. The show will premiere in Toronto December 28 – January 15 before continuing on to 14 other markets across the United States.
American Idiot, which follows a group of working-class characters, is directed by Michael Mayer, who co-wrote the musical’s book with Green Day frontman Billie Jo Armstrong. The show has won the 2011 Grammy Award for “Best Musical Show Album,” two 2010 Tony Awards, a Drama Desk Award, and an Outer Critics Circle Award, among other honors.
Van Hughes will star as Johnny, the role in which he concluded American Idiot‘s Broadway run, along with Jake Epstein as Will, Scott J. Campbell as Tunny, Leslie McDonel as Heather, Gabrielle McClinton as Whatsername, and Nicci Claspell as The Extraordinary Girl.
The ensemble will feature Talia Aaron, Krystina Alabado, Gabriel Antonacci, Larkin Bogan, Matt DeAngelis, Dan Gleason, Kelvin Moon Loh, Tommy McDowell, Jillian Mueller, Vince Oddo, Okieriete Onaodowan, and Kaitlyn Terrill. Additional casting will be announced shortly.
The show features choreography by Steven Hoggett with music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Tom Kitt and music direction by Jared Stein. The creative team also includes scenic designer Christine Jones, costume designer Andrea Lauer, lighting designer Kevin Adams, sound designer Brian Ronan, and video designer Darrel Maloney.
