French stage and screen star Sami Frey will appear in Samuel Beckett’s Premier Amour, to play for two performances at Florence Gould Hall, April 9-10. The performer has also directed the production.
The piece tells the story of a soulless man, who’s discovered by a prostitute on a park bench after he becomes homeless, and it investigates the cruel and sexual relationship that unfolds following this encounter.
Frey has appeared on stage in both classics and new productions, notably in works by Marguerite Duras, Racine, Harold Pinter, Bertolt Brecht and Georges Perec. On screen, Frey is best known for playing eccentric, offbeat roles in films such as Agnès Varda’s Cleo From 5 to 7 and Jean Luc Godard’s Band of Outsiders. Among his other film credits are Pardonnez nos Offences, En Compagnie d’Antonin Artaud, Les Acteurs (Actors), La Repentie (The Repentant), Il regista di matrimoni (The Wedding Director), Danse avec lui (Dance with Him), Nuit de chien (Tonight) and Mensch.
