New Plays by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Annie Baker, Will Eno Set for Signature Theatre
Revivals of Suzan-Lori Parks' F**king A and Athol Fugard's "Master Harold" … and the Boys, as well as new plays by Annie Baker, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, and Will Eno, will populate Signature Theatre's upcoming seasons at the Pershing Square Signature Center.
As previously announced, Parks is the theater's 2016 Residency One playwright, during which she'll serve as playwright in residence for one year. Her season will include The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World (1990), directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz (beginning October 25), and Venus (1996), directed by Lear deBessonet (beginning April 25, 2017). During the 2017-18 season, Jo Bonney will direct repertory productions of In the Blood and F**king A under the banner The Red Letter Plays.
Signature's Legacy Program, honoring past playwrights in residence, will present a major revival of Fugard's Master Harold, which Fugard will also direct. Performances begin October 18.
The Residency Five program will present the world premieres of Jacobs-Jenkins Everybody, directed Lila Neugebauer (beginning January 31, 2017), Baker's The Antipodes, also directed by Neugebauer (beginning April 4, 2017), and a new play by Eno (beginning February 7, 2017).
