Tribeca Film announced today that it has acquired the U.S. rights to Some Velvet Morning, a new film written by Tony nominee and MCC Theater resident playwright Neil LaBute (Reasons To Be Happy), which recently made its world premiere at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival. It stars Academy and Tony Award nominee Stanley Tucci (Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, The Lovely Bones) and Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness).

Some Velvet Morning is described as an “enigmatic relationship drama,” featuring Tucci as a man named Fred who, after a four-year absence, arrives at the doorstep of his beautiful young mistress, Velvet (Eve). He claims to have left his wife in hopes of rekindling their lost romance. As the film unfolds, his persistence slowly unravels into obsession.

“LaBute has a brilliant and unorthodox approach to filmmaking that captivates audiences, incites reactions, and sparks dialogue,” said Geoff Gilmore, chief creative officer of Tribeca Enterprises. “Some Velvet Morning is a thought-provoking and emotional ride that culminates in a gray, open-ended space, but its complexities do not overwhelm Stanley Tucci and Alice Eve’s electrifying performances, [nor] LaBute’s acute sense of storytelling.”

“I feel so lucky to have Some Velvet Morning in the hands of Tribeca Film,” LaBute commented. “Geoff Gilmore and his team have been a great believer in my work and it's a real blessing to have this film given the care it deserves in the marketplace by such a fine company like Tribeca. I hope this is the beginning of a long association.”

Some Velvet Morning will be released December 10 on various cable/telco and satellite video-on-demand platforms, as well as on iTunes, Amazon Watch Instantly, VUDU, Playstation, and Google Play, followed by a theatrical release on December 13.
