The two super groups play the Palace Theatre.
Motown super groups The Temptations & The Four Tops begin their one-week engagement at Broadway's Palace Theatre tonight, December 29. The concert production runs through January 4.
The concert is both a career retrospective and a celebration of the groups' hit music. Featured songs will include "My Girl," "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone," "Bernadette," "Get Ready," "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)," and many more.
The Temptations began their musical life in Detroit in the early '60s. It wasn't until 1964, however, that Smokey Robinson's "The Way You Do the Things You Do" turned them into stars. In 1989, with 35 top-40 pop hits to their credit, The Temptations were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Having made their first single for Chess in 1956, The Four Tops signed with Motown's Berry Gordy Jr. when they found out they had hustled a national Tonight Show appearance. Their first Motown hit was "Baby I Need Your Loving" in 1964.
The current singers of The Temptations are founding member Otis Williams, as well as Ron Tyson, Terry Weeks, Joe Herndon, and Bruce Williamson. The current Four Tops are original member Abdul "Duke" Fakir, Ronnie McNeir, Harold Bonhart, and Lawrence Payton, Jr.
