Michelle Williams, a member of the R&B group Destiny’s Child, has hinted publicly that she might be joining the cast of Disney’s Aida (see MTV news story), fueling speculation that Toni Braxton, previously announced to star in the Broadway hit, is bowing out of her engagement. But a press representative for Aida confirmed today that those rumors are untrue and that Braxton is indeed still scheduled to play the lead in the show for a four-month engagement beginning June 30.

It is true that Williams has seen the Elton John-Tim Rice-David Henry Hwang musical and has expressed interest in playing Aida. The press rep said that interest is definitely mutual but, because Braxton will be with the show until the end of October and might even end up staying on longer, it is far too early to work out a contract with Williams.
