Gina Ferrall, a veteran Broadway performer whose career spanned decades on stage in New York and across the country, has died following a brief battle with uterine sarcoma.

A familiar presence on Broadway, Ferrall appeared the original Broadway production of Les Misérables, where she played Madame Thénardier, Beauty and the Beast as Madame de la Grande Bouche, Mamma Mia! as Rosie, and Jane Eyre as Mrs. Reed.

Her additional Broadway credits included the 1996 revival of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Domina), the 1998 revival of The Sound of Music (Sister Berthe), Deaf West’s Big River (Widow Douglas), the 2016 revival of She Loves Me, and It Shoulda Be You, where she stood by for Tyne Daly and Harriet Harris. Her final Broadway appearance was in Tom Stoppard’s Tony-winning Leopoldstadt.

Beyond Broadway, Ferrall toured for years with Les Misérables as Madame Thénardier and portrayed Madame Morrible in the national tour of Wicked.

Her death was announced by her husband, Broadway musician Kory Grossman, who survives her.
