Kathy Bates and Whoopi Goldberg have joined the cast of Earthbound, according to a report in Variety. Nicole Kassell is directing the movie, which has a screenplay by Gren Wells.
Earthbound centers on an irreverent young woman who unexpectedly falls in love with her doctor. As previously reported, the movie also features Kate Hudson, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Rosemarie DeWitt, as well as Lucy Punch, Romany Malco, Steven Weber, and Treat Williams.
Bates received a Tony nomination for ‘night, Mother. Her other stage credits include Frankie & Johnny in the Clair de Lune, Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, and Fifth of July. She received the Academy Award for Misery. Her most recent film was The Blind Side.
Goldberg, a co-host on ABC’s The View, was most recently seen on Broadway in a one-night-only performance in The Lion King. The performer received a Drama Desk and Theatre World Award for her 1985 Broadway solo show Whoopi Goldberg. She has also starred on Broadway in Xanadu, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and another solo show, Whoopi. She has won numerous awards during her career including the Grammy, Golden Globe, as well as the Academy Award for Ghost.
