Hairspray and Nine Lead Nominations for Outer Critics Circle Awards

The Outer Critics Circle, an organization of writers who cover New York theater for publications and media outside of New York, has announced the nominations for the 53rd annual Outer Critics Circle Awards, which include both Broadway and Off-Broadway productions.

The new musical Hairpsray and the revival of the musical Nine lead the nominations with 12 each. Those two shows are followed by the new play Enchanted April with nine nominations, the Lincoln Center revival of Dinner at Eight with seven, and Baz Luhrmann’s production of Puccini’s La Bohème with five. The cast of the Off-Broadway play Talking Heads will receive a Special Achievement Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance.

The winners will be announced on Monday, May 5, with the awards ceremony to be held on Thursday, May 29 at Sardi’s. A complete list of the nominations follows:
