The play will make its world premiere at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre this January.
Outside Mullingar, a new play by Pulitzer Prize winner John Patrick Shanley (Doubt) and produced by Manhattan Theatre Club, has announced full casting for its upcoming Broadway production, scheduled to begin performances at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on January 3, 2014, in advance of a January 23 opening. The play will run for a limited 11-week engagement.
As previously announced, Emmy Award winner Debra Messing (Will & Grace, Smash) and Tony winner Brían F. O’Byrne (Frozen, Doubt) will star as introverts Rosemary and Anthony. Anthony lives a reclusive life on a cattle farm in rural Ireland while Rosemary, who lives right next door, longs for him as the years slip away. Joining them will be John Aylward (The Kentucky Cycle) and Dearbhla Molloy (Dancing at Lughnasa). Tony winner Doug Hughes directs.
The creative team for Outside Mullingar includes John Lee Beatty (scenic design), Catherine Zuber (costume design), Mark McCullough (lighting design), Fitz Patton (original music and sound design), and Stephen Gabis (dialect coach).
