In the song "Rock Star" from the 2010 Broadway musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, a punk-rock version of America's seventh president (a governor at this point in the show) takes some snide shots at a few of his predecessors. "John Adams tried to be an American Idol," he sings, "Jefferson tried to be a rock star." While the song might not be the most touching of patriotic tunes, its references take on new relevance in the era of Hamilton.
