First Night Records will release the new cast recording of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s Sweeney Todd in early April. The production, directed by Jonathan Kent, is currently in previews at the West End’s Adelphi Theatre.
As previously reported, Michael Ball stars in the title role of a man, once wrongly imprisoned, seeking revenge on society. The production also features Imelda Staunton as Todd’s partner Mrs. Lovett, along with Lucy May Barker as Johanna, Peter Polycarpou as Beadle Bamford, John Bowe as Judge Turpin, Luke Brady as Anthony, Robert Burt as Pirelli and James McConville as Tobias.
The creative team includes production designer Anthony Ward, lighting designer Mark Henderson, and sound designer Paul Groothuis.
