Tony nominee Fitzgerald and ”Saturday Night Live” vet Kazurinsky will portray Michael and Gabriel, respectively, on Broadway.
Full casting has been announced for the new Broadway comedy An Act of God, starring Emmy winner Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory). Two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello directs the production at Studio 54, where it will begin performances on May 5 before opening on May 28.
Joining Parsons will be two-time Drama Desk Award winner Christopher Fitzgerald (Finian's Rainbow) as the angel Michael, and Tim Kazurinsky (Saturday Night Live, Police Academy) as the angel Gabriel.
The production has released the following statement from God: "I'm so pleased Chris and Tim will be coming on board as the Angels Michael and Gabriel. They're funny, facile and quick. It's the next best thing to having Michael and Gabriel play themselves, which Actor's Equity refused to allow."
An Act of God is inspired by the best-selling book The Last Testament: A Memoir by God as well as by author and playwright David Javerbaum's Twitter feed, The Tweet of God. The play follows the Almighty and His angels as they answer some of the deepest questions that have plagued mankind since creation.
The new comedy features scenic design by Scott Pask (The Book of Mormon), costume design by David Zinn (Fun Home), lighting design by Hugh Vanstone (Matilda The Musical), sound design by Fitz Patton (It's Only a Play), and projection design by Peter Nigrini (Here Lies Love).
