Additionally, honors were presented to scenic designer John Lee Beatty for nearly four decades of acclaimed work, the New York City Center Encores! series for their efforts in reviving not-often-produced theater, and Soho Rep for its daring work.
On hand to celebrate were Vanya cast members Sigourney Weaver, David Hyde Pierce, Kristine Nielsen, Billy Magnussen, and Shalita Grant, as well as Matilda stars Bertie Carvel, Lesli Margherita, Lauren Ward, and director Matthew Warchus. Downtown theater artist Young Jean Lee presented Soho Rep’s Award to Artistic Director Sarah Benson, while playwright/actor Charles Busch and Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization President Ted Chapin paid tribute to the Encores! series. Manhattan Theatre Club Artistic Director Lynne Meadow introduced Beatty’s honor.
