Atlantic Season to Have New Works by Mona Pirnot, Clare Barron, Lucas Hnath, and Jackie Sibblies Drury

Atlantic Theater Company has announced its 2026-27 season, with four world premieres by Mona Pirnot, Clare Barron, Lucas Hnath, and Jackie Sibblies Drury, along with the New York premiere of the family musical Finn.

The season opens October 16-November 15 with the world premiere of I Became We, written by Obie Award winner Mona Pirnot, with music by Jack D. Coen, lyrics by Pirnot and Coen, and direction by Sarah Benson. Described as a first-person monologue performed by a 16-person choir, the work follows a woman in her mid-30s grappling with one of life’s biggest decisions through contemporary language and classical choral music.

Next is Clare Barron‘s Too Bad For Her, running January 9-February 14, 2027. Directed by Anne Kauffman, the new play explores the consequences of a 30-year affair in what Atlantic describes as “a compassionate and perverse exploration” of love, art, and unconventional lives.

Lucas Hnath‘s Old Actress follows March 18-April 25, 2027. Directed by Les Waters and starring Tony Award winner Deirdre O’Connell, the world premiere reunites the team behind the Tony-winning Dana H. The play is described as “a play about learning lines for a play.”

Closing the mainstage season is Push, running May 27-July 3, 2027. Written by Pulitzer Prize winner Jackie Sibblies Drury, choreographed by Tony Award winners Patricia Delgado and Justin Peck, and directed by Peck, the play is set in 1976 New York City and centers on a young choreographer creating a dance for the American debut of a celebrated Soviet defector. The work was conceived by Delgado, Drury, and Peck.

Atlantic for Kids will present the New York premiere of Finn, running December 12, 2026-January 31, 2027. Featuring a book by Chris Nee, music by Michael Kooman, lyrics by Christopher Dimond, and direction by Ryan Dobrin, the underwater musical follows a young shark who dreams of joining the elite Shark Guard as he embarks on a journey of self-discovery, friendship, and adventure.
