Paper Mill Playhouse has announced its 2019-20 season, featuring three new musicals and two classics.
Opening the season is Chasing Rainbows: The Road to Oz (September 26-October 27), a new show that chronicles how five-year-old Frances Gumm became the legend known as Judy Garland. Directed and choreographed by Denis Jones, the production has a book by Marc Acito, musical adaptation and additional music by David Libby, and conception by Tina Marie Casamento.
Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella will play during the holiday season, running November 20-December 29. Artistic director Mark S. Hoebee stages the classic, which features a new book by Douglas Carter Beane based on Hammerstein's original script.
The revue Unmasked: The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber kicks off 2020, with a book by Richard Curtis and direction by Laurence Connor. It runs January 30-March 1, followed by the Alan Menken-Glenn Slater-Cheri and Bill Steinkellner musical Sister Act (April 1-26).
Rounding out the season is Charles Messina's The Wanderer, a musical biography of singer Dion DiMucci. Kenneth Ferone directs the production, running May 28-June 28.
