On Sunday night, the Donmar Warehouse production of the historical drama Mary Stuart opened at the Broadhurst Theatre, starring British stage royalty Harriet Walter as Elizabeth I and Tony Award winner Janet McTeer in the title role.
Among the standout performers in the supporting cast are Nicholas Woodeson as the imperious Lord Burleigh, Chandler Williams as the duplicitous Mortimer, and John Benjamin Hickey as the two-timing Earl of Leicester.
The show’s director, Phyllida Lloyd, is also currently represented on Broadway by the megahit musical Mamma Mia!.
Christine Baranski played Tanya in Lloyd’s popular film version of Mamma Mia!
Jeremy Irons, currently on Broadway in Impressionism, co-starred with Baranski in the original Broadway production of Tom Stoppard’s The Real Thing.
Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden came by on her night off from the hit play God of Carnage.
The gorgeous Carla Gugino is turning heads nightly in the Broadway revival of Eugene O’Neil’s Desire Under the Elms.
Two-time Tony winner Matthew Broderick returned to the Great White Way in the Roundabout Theatre’s revival of Christopher Hampton’s The Philanthropist.
Broderick’s stunning wife, actress Sarah Jessica Parker, added her own touch of glamor to the opening.
Good friends (and former Schindler’s List co-stars) Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes were all smiles outside the theater.
