Charles Busch to Star in Times Square Angel Staged Reading December 13

Charles Busch will once again star in a staged reading of Times Square Angel, written by Busch, and based on an idea by himself and Andy Halliday. This twelfth annual holiday event will take place at Theater for the New City on Monday, December 13 at 8pm. Carl Andress will direct.

The play is an affectionate homage to the holiday/fantasy films of the 1940's such as It's a Wonderful Life, The Bishop's Wife, and The Big Street. Busch will play Irish O'Flanagan, a tough-as-nails nightclub chanteuse in 1940's Manhattan who makes Scrooge look like a sentimental sap. Full casting will be announced at a later date.

Busch is currently starring in the Off-Broadway production of his The Divine Sister at Soho Playhouse. He is also the author and star of such plays as The Lady in Question, Red Scare on Sunset, Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, and The Third Story. His Broadway play The Tale of the Allergist's Wife won the Outer Circle Critics' John Gassner Award, and received a Tony nomination for Best Play. He is also the recipient of a 2003 special Drama Desk Award for career achievement.
