Tony nominee Sam Harris begins performances of his new show, HAM: A Musical Memoir, this evening at Ars Nova. Directed by Tony Award winner Billy Porter (Kinky Boots), the show is set to run through January 24, with an official opening on January 12.

Based on Harris' collection of stories and essays HAM: Slices of a Life, the theatrical event puts his memoir onstage, chronicling his life and varied career as an actor, vocalist, and now author. The performance will also feature Harris' musical director Todd Schroeder.

Harris first came to national attention after winning the premiere season of Star Search in 1983. He made his Broadway debut in the 1994 revival of Grease as Doody, earned a Tony nomination in 1997 for his performance in The Life, and in 2002, took on the role of Carmen Ghia in The Producers. He is also a multimillion-selling recording artist with nine studio CDs, and he has appeared on television as a series regular in the CBS comedy The Class and a recurring character on Rules of Engagement. His memoir, HAM: Slices of a Life, was published in January 2014.
