Raul Esparza, Edie Falco, John Malkovich, Kelli O'Hara Set for New York City Center 2012-2013 Season logo

New York City Center has announced its 2012-2013 season.

Among the newly announced highlights is John Malkovich starring as the legendary lover Giacomo Casanova in the American premiere of The Giacomo Variations (May 31-June 2, 2013). Cherry Orchard Festival will present the work, which is directed by Michael Sturminger and co-stars Ingeborga Dapkünaité. The performance features scenes from Casanova's 1790 memoir, Histoire de ma vie along with excerpts from some of Mozart's best-known operas -- Cosi Fan Tutte, Don Giovanni and The Marriage of Figaro -- performed live by a Wiener Academy Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Martin Haselböck.

As previously reported, Raul Esparza and Kelli O'Hara will headline the Encores! series' 20th anniversary gala on November 12. Encores! will open with Fiorello! (January 30-February 3, 2013), followed by It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Superman (March 20-24), and On Your Toes (May 9-13).

Also as previously announced, last season's acclaimed production of Duke Ellington's Cotton Club Parade will return for a limited engagement, November 14-18.

Manhattan Theatre Club's previously reported City Center season at Stage I features Terrence McNally's Golden Age (November 13 - December 30); Liz Flahive's The Madrid (February 5 - March 24), starring Edie Falco; and Nell Benjamin's The Explorers Club (May 14 - June 30). As previously announced, The Studio at Stage II will showcase Julia Jordan's and Juliana Nash's new musical Murder Ballad (October 30 - November 25), and Tarell Alvin McRaney's Choir Boy (June 18 - July 14).

As recently reported, the Women's Project Stage II season will include Bethany by Laura Marks (January 11 - February 17); Jackie by Elfriede Jelinek (February 24 - March 31); and Collapse by Allison Moore (April 7 - May 19).

Additional events at City Center will include the Fall For Dance festival (September 27-October 13; the American Ballet Theatre's 2012 Fall season (October 16-20); comedian Louis CK (October 22-28); the previously announced JUMP FOR JOY A Dance Variety Spectacular from Career Transition for Dancers, honoring Liza Minnelli, featuring Chita Rivera, and hosted by Angela Lansbury (November 5); Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (November 28-December 30); the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players' presentations of The Mikado, H.M.S. Pinafore and The Yeomen of the Guard (January 4-20); Pacific Northwest Ballet (February 13-16); Ballet Flamenco de Andalucia (March 6-9); New York City Opera's presentation of Moses in Egypt (April 14-20) and La Périchole (April 21-27); and the Studio 5 series of informal conversations with some of today's most compelling figures in theater and dance (schedule TBA).
