The forthcoming stage anthology of material from musicals directed and produced by Harold Prince, Prince of Broadway, will open directly in New York and forgo its previously announced tryout in Toronto. It is anticipated that the piece, co-directed by Prince and Susan Stroman, who will also choreograph, will open in November 2012 in a theater to be announced.

David Thompson will write the book for the show, which will celebrate and re-examine material from Prince's theater career, drawing on songs from some of the musicals in which he has been involved, such as A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Cabaret, Company, Damn Yankees, Fiorello! , Follies, Fiddler on the Roof, It's a Bird... It's a Plane... It's Superman, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Merrily We Roll Along, Parade, She Loves Me, and Sweeney Todd.

Prince has won more Tony Awards than anyone else, 21. Among his other honors is a 2000 National Medal of Arts, which was bestowed in recognition of his career in which "he changed the nature of the American musical." Additionally, he was a 1994 Kennedy Center Honoree.
