Matthew Broderick to Star in Roundabout's The Philanthropist
The show, which is set in a British university town, had a brief Broadway run in 1971 starring Alec McCowen. Hampton is best known for the play Les Liaisons Dangereuses, for which he received a Tony Award nomination, and an Oscar for the screenplay for the film version, Dangerous Liaisons. He is currently represented on Broadway by his translation for The Seagull. Grindley directed the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of Journey's End and last season's revival of Pygmalion for the Roundabout.
